The quality of data storage in the new millenium has been largely influenced by Cloud Computing and in the last epsiode of Vigattin Radio, among with other honored guests, this giant innovation has been thoroughly elaborated.
What is Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is basically a type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications. It's history can be traced back in 1950's when the integrity of local server infastructures has been doubtly compromised.
Advantages and characteristics of cloud computing includes security, mobility, low cost and highly scalable.
Successful companies using the Cloud
Lenddo
According to our guest and Director of Sales and Marketing of Lenddo, Ms. Erika Aquino, Lenddo basically provides an online credit scoring and financial services, such as loans, for employed individuals and uses the social network to gage their credit scores. Lenddo makes use of a lot of information and the cloud, with its endless boundaries, makes it easier for them to store these data. The Director of Development of Lenddo, Mr. Alex Alabiso was also there to join in the discussion.
ProudCloud
Proudcloud, as what its CEO and CTO, Mr. Jason Torres stated, is a service company compsing of 20 professional individuals. They focus mainly on Ruby on Rails (Ruby as the programming language and Rails as its platform). They create applications for clients, mostly overseas and startups.
Ideatech
As Mr. Allen Tan, CEO and CT of IdeaTech Inc. stated, their company is a software development company that focuses on creating JAVA applications. They cater mostly to off-shore clients in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Middle East. All of their applications basically uses the cloud as their data backbone.
The future of the Cloud and its Security
These three companies through their stories only proves the potential of Cloud Computing here in the Philippines. A hindering factor for some to do not resort to the cloud is its security. As what Mr. Allen Tan and the rest of the guests agreed, the failure of users itself to safeguard their information is the main threat to the cloud's security. At the end of it all, being wary of your personal information is still what counts.
