Vigattin Tourism recalls the 1st year Anniversary of the Super Typhoon Yolanda and its disastrous effect to the Filipino people.  It is a constant reminder that we always need to be aware of the things that are happening to our world. It’s been a year already since that typhoon took many lives of Filipinos, but the question remains is, has our country already recovered from that disaster? Did Filipinos learn from that experience?

Vigattin Tourism interviewed Isa Umali live from Tacloban City through phone patch. They offered a mass at Holy Cross Memorial Garden for the anniversary of typhoon Yolanda. Mayor Alfred Romualdez said that they have only built 200 permanent housing since after the typhoon Yolanda, their target permanent housing of 14,000 will take time to fulfill. There are 3,800 recovered bodies with 1000 still missing.

Mr. Marlon Ramos was there on the 3rd day after Typhoon Yolanda and according to him that there’s already a big change since then. Many Filipinos already have recovered from the tragedy brought by the typhoon and are thankful to those who helped them, but most of the Filipinos have hatred from the national government because they are the least who helped them. They keep on asking where the government was when they needed them.

Now, we must look on the bright side. Vigattin Tourism was able to interview the owner of BamBike, Mr. Bryan Mcclelland, also through phone patch. Bambike is proudly partnered with Gawad Kalinga. “Gawad Kalinga,” translated in English means to “give care”; it is a based movement that aims to end poverty by first restoring the dignity of the poor. It employs an integrated and holistic approach to empowerment with values-formation and leadership development at its core. Established in 2003, The Foundation currently works with over 2,000 communities and has been recognized as the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee & 2012 Skoll Awardee for Social Entrepreneurship.

And for those who are into campus events, SYNERGY (Electric and Electronic Summit 2014) was held last November 19-22 at the University of the Philippines. It was a 4-day event in partnership with Philippine Robotics and Gizmo Sink Club. They had different activities like talks, competition, revolutionary robotics and many more. It was open for everyone.

Lastly, November 23, 2014 afternoon at UP Diliman Academic Oval there was a Benefit Fun Run for the benefit of Philippine Toy Library. The registration fee for the 3 kilometer run was P450 and for 5 kilometer run, P 550. This was a run for a cause.
