Filipino IT students are globally competitive and adaptive to learning. Our guests have agreed that IT students in the country nowadays are prepared and readied by our teachers to face the challenges of the world. These students are very quick to adapt the ever-changing technology and the information they are learning are not stagnant in their minds.
IT is needed in different industries, even those that we think aren't connected to IT at all. Even microbusinesses need IT to develop a simple inventory of their products and services. In the field of Criminology, IT is needed to keep track of data records. We also have what you call cyberforensics to solve cybercrimes.
IT education should be holistic. For IT students, although you should really focus on what you're good at, may it be programming, data analysis, or other skills, you should also know the other parts of Information Technology. You should also have people skills to interact well with other people. You should be good not only with handling computers, but with handling people as well.
Filipinos should develop applications that are socially relevant. We see multitude of applications all over the Web, but we seldom see apps that are socially relevant and really help solve social issues. Although these apps may not have a high entertainment value, they should be developed as well to be effective tools in nation-building.
IT is an important tool in the upcoming automated elections. With a lot of issues and concerns about the upcoming midterm elections, IT has a great role to play in securing data transmission and the overall system of counting, canvassing, and proclamation of votes.
