During an interview on Vigattin Radio at DZIQ Radyo Inquirer last November 22, an engineer has proposed a solution to combat the increasing number of crimes on the road in the country.

According to Engineer Benz De Guzman, AutoProtect, an anti-car napping device which can identify the legitimate owner of a car, is now out to the larger public after 13 years of quiet business.

Using AutoProtect, De Guzman said, the car cannot be driven farther than 500 meters after being stolen before the engines shuts itself down and sets off an alarm.

In the first 25 seconds after the theft, the unauthorized driver can drive the car for about 250 meters, and then the engine will shut down. After this, for another 25 seconds, the driver will be able to restart the car. However, when the engine shuts down for the second time after driving less than another 250 meters, the unauthorized driver will not be able restart it again.

AutoProtect works on different car models, even on the oldest ones. It is to make sure that carnappers will not be able to pinpoint what model is vulnerable and what model is not.

Moreover, this device is also transferrable to other car units. With an extended warranty from two to three years, AutoProtect guarantees a money-back system if it doesn’t work properly.

This device has already been in the market for around 13 years now, but has only made its debut to the public during this interview due to strict confidentiality protocols.

On the other hand, a Filipino-made mobile application also made its debut in the ever-expanding world of useful IT applications during the same episode of Vigattin Radio.

Tudlo.Mi is a mobile application which aims to link its users to all available calamity response units online in times when they are in need of help anywhere they may be.

This application has three important components. The first one is regarding prevention of disastrous events. Offering a mobile dictionary which includes a safety guide teaching the user what to do or use during such times of emergency ranging from electricity blackouts to volcano eruptions or typhoons, smartphones can instantly be transformed into emergency devices using this application. This can be accessed even when the user is offline.

Furthermore, during the actual event of disaster, Tudlo.Mi can also be used to report such incidents. With a mobile phonebook of emergency contact numbers of different hospitals, clinics or any response unit and an internet connection, users can immediately ask for help online using this application.

Likewise, this can also pinpoint any emergency incident reported to any hospitals or clinics which can help the user when they are looking or want to know something about a certain incident anywhere on the map.

This application has already proven its worth when it won one of the top 10 spots in the culmination of the IT World Telecom held last 2013 wherein 700 entries participated.
