We cannot deny the fact that our country is left behind when it comes to criminal management system. Criminal identification systems and the likes as those of the FBI may seem like a dream for us Filipinos given the fact that we fall short in terms of technology. But surprisingly, not in manpower.
The Philippines has been home to some of the most skilled individuals in computer systems. But not all of them are in heart of helping the country grow in the area of crime management. But gladly, some of them does, and the Philippine National Police - InformationTechnology Management Service (PNP-ITMS) proudly houses them.
Our guest PSUPT Ruben B. Borres, of the Plans Department of the PNP-ITMS made it clear that their department are doing their very best to keep up with the odds. They are planning to develop an Online Crime Information System, a Crime Map, as well as to create a Data Centralization System and many more as listed in their website at https://itms.pnp.gov.ph/index.php/plans.
The talk revolved mainly on the progress of the Philippines' transactional and criminal systems and the role of IT in the success of these systems minus the politics, which, according to PSUPT Borres is included in their mandate; to establish a Computer Center as one of the administrative support units of the PNP.
As the episode ended, VigattinRadio and PSUPT Ruben Borres in behalf of PNP-ITMS, appealed to those who are skilled enough and would want to take on the growth of the country through information technology and be part of the team. As what John F. Kennedy stated, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country".
By being willing to take part and doing our part will we only achieve greatness for the nation. And who might just know, maybe there will come a time when we can identify criminals or map real time crimes using our phones.
