Because of its rich geological history, some of the finest stones, rocks and minerals in the world can be found in the Philippines.
A small business in Bacong called Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage was able to collect and transform these stones into beautiful artworks ranging from jewelry boxes, containers, candleholders, dining ware, fashionware, office supplies, photo frames, pots, vases, wall decors, clocks and a lot more.
The rocks and stones collected from all over the islands are cut, carved and glued in mosaic-like patterns before being glazed and polished.
So much love and devotion goes into producing these items. A small jewelry box, for example, takes about two weeks to finish, a bigger one, from one to two months. A paperweight takes three days while one of the bigger wall panels, with "The Last Supper" took almost a year to complete.
If you are in Dumaguete, their showroom and factory in Bacong is a must see. For those in Manila, you may visit the Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage booth at the 30th Negros Trade Fair at the Glorietta Activity Center from September 16-20.
