The name Pateros most likely derived from the duck-raising industry. The name PATEROS came from the Tagalog words "pato" — the duck that lays the eggs for balut making, and "sapatero" — the word for shoemakers.
A booming industry
This small town is famous for its duck-raising industry. One major tourist attraction in Pateros is the Balut-making. The very famous industry has been handed down from generation to generation and shares about 23.0% of the whole Pateros industry. The city is also known for the production of red salty eggs and "inutak," a local rice cake.
Moreover, the town is known for manufacturing of "alfombra," locally-made footwear with a carpet-like fabric on its top surface. They are also famous for T-Shirts/Garments Industry that helps to boost the economy of the city.

Withstanding passage of time, Pateros City is one of the best places for both local and foreign tourists for its exceptional celebrations of festivals. Balut sa Puti Festival is one of the well-known revelry where thousands of participants from all over the country have come to be part of its history.

Pateros has various recreational facilities which suit your specific needs. The town view sports and recreation as an important factor to promote the health and friendship among the residents of the town.
In this small town, the most popular sport activity is out-dooring type. Of the outdoor type of sports, basketball is top followed by volleyball and recently badminton. The only forms of indoor recreation known are draft, billiard, table tennis and bowling. Some families have their own tables for the said indoor sports. However, there are private halls and alleys on several barangay for these games. There is also one cockpit arena located at Barangay Martires del '96 commonly known as Starter.
Two entertainment/convention facilities offer swimming activities for their guests. These are Villa Monica Clubhouse and Grand Villa Resort and Restaurant.
