Rizal Park as one of the most famous attractions in Manila, is one of the most significant places because it is where the famed national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was martyred. His execution on December 30, 1896 ignited the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish colonizers.
The place is spread out of open lawns, ornamental gardens, paved walks and wooded areas. Rizal Park is also called Luneta Park and it’s situated next to Intramuros. It has been renovated several times and beautifully redesigned.
Today Rizal Park is still one of the best destinations to tour. Its historical significance makes it more interesting and that’s why it was listed as one of the best parks in Asia.
The park according to the latest survey made by Agoda Company PTE Ltd., ranked eighth in a competitive regional list. The survey was based on carefully analyzed booking information and feedback from customers that presents Asia’s highest rated parks as selected by Agoda’s clients.
Among the list, it includes huge national parks, marine parks and green areas in the middle of a city that has an historical importance. All of the entries including the Rizal Park left a great impression on Agoda’s costumers.
The 140-acre park certainly fits to be named as one of the best parks of Asia because it is where the world-famed nationals, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, was executed that led to ignite the sentiment of the many Filipinos who wants to be salvage against the Spanish oppressions.
As one of the most popular spots in Manila for locals to have their picnics, exercise and relaxations it underwent a massive restoration by the National Parks Development Committee aimed at reestablishing the most significant elements of the park.
Restorations in the park include the rehabilitation of the old musical dancing fountain which was supervised by German-Filipino William Schaare, the same person who originally built the fountain in the 1960s. Also, the Flower Clock, the Noli Me Tangere Garden and the Luzviminda Boardwalk were fully restored.
