Camiguin is a small volcanic island province located in the Bohol Sea, about ten kilometers off the northern coast of Misamis Oriental in Mindanao. Mambajao is its provincial capital. It is also the second smallest province in the Philippines in terms of population.

It has a virgin jungle where various flora and fauna can be found. It also boasts of hot and cold springs, majestic waterfalls and black or white sandy beaches.

Nurture the Nature of Camiguin

Camiguin is a small volcanic island province located in the Bohol Sea, about ten kilometers off the northern coast of Misamis Oriental in Mindanao. Mambajao is its provincial capital. It is also the second smallest province in the Philippines in terms of population.

It has a virgin jungle where various flora and fauna can be found. It also boasts of hot and cold springs, majestic waterfalls and black or white sandy beaches.

Here are the tourist attractions in Camiguin:

Katibawasan Falls Located five kilometers southeast of Mambajao, its cold water provides a refreshing summer splash and its clear stream fall into a rock pool which is surrounded by ground orchids, wild ferns, wisps and stones. You can rappel down the waterfall or plunge into the pool.

Tuasan Falls

You can have a very scenic hike passing through the quaint locale of Mainit in Catarman and to the location of Tuasan Falls. These tumbling falls and running water are the only sounds visitors will hear. It is a perfect place for a peaceful picnic and the adjoining view is untouched.

Tangub Hot Spring  

It is a volcanic hot spring below the sea bed. This small area is formed by a pool of sea stones and corals and is completely undeveloped. Water temperatures turn from cold to lukewarm, warm and hot as the tide changes. Sit in the water at low tide and enjoy the cold sea water as it mixes with the hot spring.

Ardent Hot Springs 

The water of Ardent Hot Springs comes from Mount Hibok-Hibok and is 40°C. The place has a beautiful rock formations, decorative plants and shrubs. It has a four-tiered pool and two smaller pools which is both warmth and refreshing.

Sto.Niño Cold Spring

   This cold spring is located in Catarman, and is surrounded by restaurants, picnic huts, native cottages, clean restrooms, and cooking facilities for those who want to cook their own fresh food.

Macao Cold Spring

It is located in Mahinog and one of Camiguin’s most peaceful places. Swimmers could be amazed because of its beautiful and crystal blue water. The pool is cool and shady because of the gigantic ancient trees surround it.

Bura Soda Water Swimming Pool

This pool in Bura, Catarman is said to be the one and only in the country where you can swim in soda water. It has great scenery over the fields and the seas.

Esperanza Ardent Hot Spring

The mineral pool of Esperanza Hot Spring is around 40°C. The heated water that creates fog runs down from the sleeping Hibok-Hibok volcano. It is very ideal to bathe at night because of the cool mountain air blowing around it. This spring also has therapeutic effects. 

Taguines Lagoon

This man-made lagoon is located in Benoni, Mahinog, and this serene site is heightened by limpid waters, craggy cliffs and huge boulders standing like sentinels. It is an ideal place to hire a boat and go fishing for the day.

Old Vulcan   

This old volcano drops into the sea and makes a natural road high above the ocean. The place has a sheer drop-off of 80 meters. Rich corals abound in the ocean below. The coral-covered molten rocks are surrounded with tropical fishes such as anthias, clown fishes, damsels and others. 

Mantigue Island

      This island is located three kilometers off the coast of Hubangon and San Roque in Mahinog. It is composed of four hectares of evergreen forest fringed with white granule sand beaches. One side of the island is laced with a white sand beach and corals offshore while the opposite side provides a deep drop-off for snorkeling and diving.

White Island

Across the sea from Agoho and Yumbing is an island composed of white sand beaches that offer a superb view of Mount Hibok-Hibok and Old Volcano as its backdrop. This place is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling and viewing the sunrise and sunset over Camiguin.

How to get there

From Manila, you can take direct flights of Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, or Air Philippines going to Cagayan de Oro City, which worth around 2,700php – 3,500. The trip will takes 1 – 2 hour travel time. From Cagayan de Oro City, you can take a cab going to the bus terminal in the Market of Agora and ride a bus travelling to Balingoan or you can rent a taxi/van from the airport going directly to Balingoan Port.  At Balingoan in Misamis Oriental, a 1-2 hour trip on ferry to reach Benoni port of Mahinog in Camiguin Island.

You can also ride a 3 - 4 hour ferry ride going to Guinsiliban, Camiguin from Cagayan de Oro Ferry terminal.
