Ms. Ariella Arida crowned as the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2013

Binibining Pilipinas is one of the much-awaited beauty pageants in the Philippines. The pageant is now on its 50th years of choosing beautiful ladies from different provinces and cities in the Philippines to compete in international beauty contests like the Miss Universe.

The 50th year of Binibining Pilipinas pageant or Binibining Pilipinas Gold was held last April 14, 2013 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City. Fifty gorgeous ladies participated in this competition. The coronation night, hosted by Martin Nievera and Dawn Zulueta, was aired on ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel.

Of the 50 stunning ladies, Ms. Ariella Arida of Laguna was crowned as the new Miss Universe Philippines 2013 during the coronation night. She also won a special award as Best in Swimsuit.

The 24-year-old lady is a Chemistry graduate from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She is a sportswoman who loves the outdoors, especially the beach. Prior to winning the title, Ara competed at Miss Philippines Earth 2002 and was a former Binibining Laguna contestant. Additionally, Ariella is a member of Iglesia ni Cristo, a religious organization in the Philippines.

Ms. Arielle was the first contestant who was asked during the Q & A portion. The question given to her came from PNP Director General Alan Purisima. She gave her best answer on “Name a lesson about life that women can teach men”.

She absolutely impressed the judges on her answer:

"One lesson in life that women can teach men is being sensitive. Men are more logical when it comes to decisions. They're rational and straightforward. Unlike women, we use our hearts and we tend to get emotional when we make our decisions. Sensitivity is something that we women can teach to men,"

Ms. Ariella Arida, the new Miss Universe Philippines 2013, will compete in the prestigious beauty pageant, the Miss Universe.

The Binibining Pilipinas-International 2013, Bea Rose Santiago of Masbate, will join the Miss International beauty pageant.

To complete the top 5 winners, Joanna Cindy Miranda was awarded as the Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism, Mutya Johanna Datul was declared as the Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational, and Pia Wurtzbach was the first runner-up.

The last year Bb. Pilipinas winners such as Janine Tugonon (Miss Universe Philippines 2012), Nicole Schmitz (Miss International 2012) and Katrina Jayne Dimaranan (Binibining Pilipinas - Tourism 2012) also appeared in the coronation night to pass their crowns to their respective successors. Passing of crowns has been a tradition in Binibining Pilipinas.

Binibing Pilipinas former winners, Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran, Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Raj and Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up were also spotted in the 50th celebration of the pageant.
