Filipinas are among the most beautiful in the world, and this has been proven time and again with the long line of winners of beauty pageants throughout history. A recent proof of this fact is Megan Young, winner of the recently concluded Miss World 2013 in Bali, Indonesia. The personification of beauty, smile and talent, Megan has captured the hearts of many all over the world and has shown what the Filipina can really do.
Megan Lynne Young is a Filipino American born in Alexandria, Virginia but moved to Olongapo City, where she finished her primary and secondary education. She is recently taking up Philippines at age ten. She finished secondary education in Regional Science High School III in Subic Bay Freeport Zone and is currently taking a major in Digital Film Making.
Megan has for quite a time been an actress, model, TV show host and personality. She has already appeared in videos and movies, and already had quite a following.
She eventually joined the Miss World Philippines 2013 pageant and won on August 18, 2013, being picked from 24 other hopefuls while winning 6 special awards. Everyone had high hopes for her that she will be like 2011 Miss World 1st runner up, Gwendoline Ruais and standout Queneerich Rehman .
Upon her arrival in Indonesia, she was already an early favorite to bag the Miss World crown.
Megan Young was crowned as Miss World 2013 in Bali, Indonesia, making her the first Filipina to win the title of Miss World since its creation in 1951. She bested 126 contestants all over the world. During the preliminaries, she also won the "Top Model" competition, placed fourth in the "Multimedia Challenge" and fifth in the "Beach Beauty" contest.
The top six finalists of the 63rd Miss World Beauty pageant were the contestants from France, Philippines, Ghana, Brazil, Spain. Gibraltar was the wildcard People's Choice entry. The said ladies were asked why they felt they should be awarded the title. “I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides her into understanding people, why they act the way they do, how they’re living their lives. And I will use these core values and understanding not only in helping others but to show other people how they can understand others, to help others. … So that as one, together, we shall help society. Thank you!”
Upon her win, Megan graciously thanked the judges and supporters and vowed to “be the best Miss World ever.”
Megan Young serves as a sterling example for Filipinas and has brought much pride to the Philippines. Her win was indeed a proud moment for the Fiipino people.
