Mango–Bamboo Festival: Double the Fun!


Mango-Bamboo Festival is a yearly week-long celebration every April 20-27 in San Carlos City, Pangasinan. It is made to promote the major trade of the town which is bamboo furniture and products, and the best “carabao” mangoes you've ever tasted.

Mango-Bamboo Festival is a yearly week-long celebration every April 20-27 in San Carlos City, Pangasinan. It is made to promote the major trade of the town which is bamboo furniture and products, and the best “carabao” mangoes you've ever tasted. These two products are abundant in their place, which gives them a greater chance to compete in the world market. the main goal of the celebration is to strengthen the opportunity, improve the marketing, and increase earning capabilities of mango growers and those engaged in the bamboo craft industry.

The Mango-Bamboo Festival starts with a Thanksgiving Mass, and after that, the festive and colorful parade begins with street dancing joined by local residents, visitors, and tourists.

There are so many activities lined up to highlight the city’s main agricultural product and bamboo craft and to entertain the townspeople and visitors. There is the Liga ng mga Barangay night, a basketball game wherein all the barangays send teams to compete with each other in a sports event, and a Gay Basketball Competition, in which you will witness lots of gays running and fighting for the ball. The beauty pageant is one of the most awaited activities in the festival. You will witness how the beautiful ladies compete for the crown as Miss San Carlos City. They will show their talent, beauty, and knowledge.

Other events include the Bikers’ Fest which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Carlos, Educators’ Day, Sports Fest and Palaro ng Lahi, Senior Citizens’ Night, Farmers and Homemakers Day which highlights the bamboo craft competition including a Kubo-making Contest (hut-making), Catwalk Diva Fashionista, Drum and Bugle Corps Showdown, Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) Variety Show, Car and Motorcycle Show, a Medical-Dental Mission and Operation Tuli, Gabi ng mga Negosyante (Night for Businessmen/women),  and Fun Run “Takbo Para sa Puso” (run for the heart).

The most highlighted activities are the Street Party sponsored by the San Miguel Beer Corporation, trade fair, and the Grand Fiesta Ball. The trade fair has a display of varieties of sweet mangoes and unique and artistic handicrafts made from bamboo, which makes the local people really proud!

The famous mango–bamboo festival is trying to produce the world’s largest mango pie, wherein the residence of the town are helping each other to get this kind of award. The people also looking forward for their products to be recognized and become more popular.
