Major Airports in Palawan

In Palawan, aside from land and sea transportations, airports are the major mode of transportation when you want to go to the other provinces or island. In all, the island has four major airports that have been frequented by thousands of tourists year by year. Sometimes, they are a sort of tourist attractions in themselves that accommodate all the needs of their passengers.

  • Puerto Princesa Airport

Puerto Princesa International Airport is an airport serving the general area of Puerto Princesa City. It is classified as an international airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. Recently, Philippine President Aquino intended to make the airport one of the primary gateways of the Philippines aside from Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Angeles City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the capital Manila.

The airport is the main gateway to the Puerto Princesa Underground River.

  • El Nido Airport

El Nido Airport is an airport serving El Nido, a municipality in the province of Palawan. Also known as Lio Airport, it is located in the barangay of Villa Libertad, about 4 kilometres (2 mi) from the población (town proper) of El Nido. This rolled gravel airstrip is owned and operated by Island Transvoyager Incorporated.

  • Taytay Airport

Cesar Lim Rodriguez (CLR) Airport, more popularly known as Taytay Airport and Sandoval Airport, is an airport in Taytay, Palawan. The airport was named after Judge Cesar Lim Rodriguez, a native of Taytay, Palawan who donated part of his property for the airport.

  • Francisco B. Reyes Airport

Francisco B. Reyes Airport is an airport serving the general area of Coron, located in the province of Palawan. It is also shared with the neighboring municipality of Busuanga. The airport is named after Francisco Reyes, a mayor of Coron during the Commonwealth era known for having donated the land that forms the current airport complex.

The airport is classified as a Class 2 principal (minor domestic) airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, a body of the Department of Transportation and Communications that is responsible for the operations of not only this airport but also of all other airports in the Philippines except the major international airports.

Francisco B. Reyes Airport was expanded in 2007, funded by a three million-dollar loan from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in cooperation with the Department of Transportation and Communications. The expansion, which included the construction of a new terminal building and the completion of the airport's then-unfinished concrete runway, was inaugurated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on November 10, 2008.
