They say that bikes are the one that can help minimize the traffic in Metro Manila which causes a lot of delays that can sabotage the economic growth of the country. Bicycles are certainly a good option for transportation but it’s expensive to have and huge to carry around. So last Saturday, Vigattin Radio discussed the new innovation in bicycles with Nyfti.
The Nyfti bikes utilize a “three-fold technology” that has been developed by Filipinos. It is the very first in the Philippines. With anchors Mr. Den Macaranas, Ms. Arne Barcelo and Mr. Elison Barcelo they discussed the new bikes together with their esteemed guest from Nyfti. They are co-founders Ingko Marfori, Miguel Marfori and Carl Mamawal.
The three of them are avid cyclists and advocates who want to promote biking as a mode of transportation here in the Philippines that will lessen greenhouse gases and its effect to the nature. Despite the lack of bicycle infrastructure here in Metro Manila and as a role model of their advocacy, they decided to bike-to-work and use bimodal commute.
They expect that their Nyfti bikes will encourage more people to commute using bimodal transportation. They believe that it can benefit the people to have a sustainable environment by providing them a folding bicycle that is easy to use, compact, elegant, stable, sleek and less expensive. Through this, they hope that there will be more people like them that will use bicycles as a new mode of transportation.
Nyfti are just one of the ten startups that won the Ideaspace 2014 tech startup contest. It is a yearly competition organized by Ideaspace Foundation, Inc., a Philippine-based incubator and accelerator, which will give the winners an early-stage funding worth at least P 500, 000 for training, services and seed investment.
Currently, the company will be able to share the first Filipino folding bike innovation to the world. They are nominated in the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition that is sponsored by UNESCO (United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture), Stiftung Entrepreneurship and Goi Peace Foundation.
The winners of the competition will have a chance to fly in Berlin on October 2014 and they will be awarded during the Entrepreneurship Summit. There will be three winners that will be selected among the top ten teams that gathered the most votes. The team with the most votes will be automatically granted with the People’s Choice Award.
