Dangwa Market, also known as "The Flower Market of Manila," was expectedly flocked on Valentine's Day and even the night before by Filipinos and foreigners wanting to buy the best and freshest flowers for their loved ones on the Day of Hearts.
Despite knowing the market will be swamped with people, would-be buyers still braved the crowds so as to give a special gift for the ones they love. But the crowds wasn't the only thing they had to contend with. The cost of flowers rose as supplies dwindled. the price of a boquet of roses, which normally cost 250 pesos, reached a high of 500, which is almost double the price. The same was true of other flowers, like carnations and sunflowers. Buyers were not deterred, however, as the cost was still reasonable considering the significance of this day.
All over the Metro, traffic buildup was noted especially during lunch and rushour. This spilled over to the late evening as almost everyone was going someplace, with the many attractions, concerts and events scattered over the city, some even with foreign performers. Restaurants were filled to capacity to accomodate the throngs of pairs wishing to have a special meal together.
The Philippine National Police and local government units were on high alert to ensure the peace on this special day, with live threats and cyber threats on the rise as the day approached.
