Last 2011 we went to SM Mall of Asia and attended the Earth Hour event. One person has the power to make a change, and we can make that change happen. 

 

“Earth Hour is a simple act that emphasizes both the ease and importance of adopting energy-efficient practices and lifestyles,” says the Earth Hour National Director Atty. Gia Ibay, who also leads the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) Climate Unit. “Given ever-increasing energy demands, we must be mindful of the need to control human-induced global warming by adopting smarter and more responsible energy practices.”

It was fun attending such an event. It was also an experience where one realizes what the world really needs right now.  Let's save the earth from global warming. The switch off countdown ended 8:30 in the evening, starting an hour where the Philippines turns off the lights for an hour as its small but meaningful contribution the world's effort to save the environment.  After spending all that electricity all day, all week, all year, just saving power for an hour made sense.

The event also featured many fantastic attractions like a question and answer segment with the handsome top Asian celebrities. Miss Cynthia Alexander and Mr. Luke Mijares performed for the eager crowd. there were also other sidelights, like booths and free Coke Zero giveaways. It was truly an event that was both enjoyable and meaningful for me.
