A sanctuary

The Agutayan island in the province of Misamis Oriental is one of the Coastal Environment Program (CEP) sites of DENR Region 10 where valuable ecological communities such as corals, seagrasses, seaweeds, and other macroinvertebrates thrive in its 3-ha marine sancturay.  With the rich marine biodiversity in the area, small-scale fishing also exists in the island and is considered as the main source of livelihood of nearby coastal communities.  Aside from being a tourist destination, the area serves as a study site for marine biology scientific research.

How to get there

By land, sea and air, Misamis Oriental is very accessible. Major airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Zest Air, Air Philippines fly to the Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro. Several buses travel to and from Cagayan de Oro from almost all major cities in Mindanao.

Agutayan Island is located in Macajalar Bay, five kilometers from Jasaan’s Poblacion. In the proper town you can find boats going to the island.
