5 best places to crave in Naga City, Philippines


Naga City, formerly known as 'Queen City of Bicol and “An Maogmang Lugar” or “The Happy Place” is one of the best places in the Philippines for tourist who finds adventure spots, but also on it's food-tripping lounges.

Naga City, formerly known as 'Queen City of Bicol and “An Maogmang Lugar” or “The Happy Place”  is one of the best places in the Philippines for tourist who finds adventure spots, but also on it's food-tripping lounges.

1. Bigg's Diner

A retro fastfood chain that you may like enter a 1980's place, also the biggest fastfood chain in bicol region. Bigg's Dinner of Nena Bichara, Ninie Buenaflor and Maricar Marjon had an idea that take out food service will be perfect for Naga. The business became an instant hit as they called it 'Mang Donalds' with a specialty of burger and fries.  'Mang Donalds' because they said it's name would be easier to remember as reffered to Mc Donald's. The aspiring resto got boomed because of 80's Naga City is a hard place to find a quick meal. In January 1984, Mang Donald's opened up a goto counter to add some of it's menu. Soon they added dinuguan aside from their american delights to satisfy the needs of the customers.

The booming restaurant soon changed it's name to Carl's, which came from the 3 partners who has sons named "carlos", then 1994 the resto's last name was changed to Bigg's to have a hit and confidence to frachise branches in some part of the Philippines. The resto became crowd favorite stop over and had a lot of customers as well they are know for serving western fare like fully loaded burgers, crispy chicken, succulent baby back ribs, and sizzling tenderloin tips.

 

2. Bob Marlin

Catchy name for Reggae Artist Bob Marley,  The restaurant and grill is located along Magsaysay Avenue, now considered one of the best foodie stop over because of the number of bars, cafes, and restaurants lining the street.

Bob Marlin’s bestseller crowd favorite is their “OMG! Crispy Pata.” Crispy pork crackling skin, tender melt-in-your-mouth meat, spicy veggies, plus an ice-cold beer and drinks are perfect for friend's gathering food-trip. Other great dishes to try out include the Island Grilled Squid, Sinigang na Salmon and Chicken Adobo sa Gata.

 

3. Red Platter

Red Platter is a semi fine-dining restaurant that offers Asian and Western dishes as well as a few Bicolano-inspired dishes. Red Platter emerges fast the food dining industry  The Red Platter is same as the genre of Graceland, a popular fastfood restaurant in Naga City.

Red Platter also serves a few fusion dishes including the Bicolano Special Pizza (pizza topped with chili and laing) and their Bicol Cordon Bleu, which is stuffed with pinangat instead of cheese before being fried.

 

4. Pili nut Choco Kisses

Pili nuts, similar flavor with almonds, grow all over the Bicol Region. These nuts are very popular ingredient specially for sweets and dessert delicacies. If you want to find unique pasalubong products something more than the usual candied pili nuts in jars sold at the bus terminals, head to J. Emannuel store for more different sweet jaw breaking pastries.

 

5. Street Foods and Meriendas

Not only in manila you can see a lot of street food carts and stands, but also in Naga City. Usual goodies in street foods like fishball, pugo, kalamares will rarely seen in streets of Naga, but as replacement, Naga has their own Street foods more exotic and extinct than Manila's street food.

in Naga, you have to try Kinalas noodle soup. Kinalas has a savory broth that gets it flavor from the meat of boiled cow or pork head.

Gravy is poured over the soup, and the whole dish is garnished with scallions and kalamansi on the side. The special version can be served with an egg. Street foods like this is perfect for cold rainy day season, can help heat up our body. Kinalas is served in many humble eateries around the city. The most popular ones are Bolofer’s, Cely’s, Cordova’s, Cha Ced (Kinalas sa Balatas) and Kinalas Twin.

Another one is toasted siopao, filled with ground pork and slices of boiled egg before it is toasted, giving it a warm crispy exterior and soft meaty filling. Another is Putong bagas (steamed cakes made of rice flour and shredded coconut cooked with brown sugar), bulastog (a hard-boiled chicken egg deep-fried in orange batter) and baduya (sliced and deep-fried banana fritters) and so much more.
